Report #001 | 15th SEPTEMBER 2020
INTRODUCTION
Arrow Services Monaco (ASM) have been appointed by the Owners, to take over the monitoring process and project management for the remaining period of construction. Starting 7th September 2020.
Following the initial inspection onboard, ASM note that there are no major deviations between planned and actual progress at this time. However, given the current situation onboard, ASM considers that Sanlorenzo (SL) are operating to a very optimistic delivery schedule.
EXTERIOR
Underwater Hull:
With the exception of some coating touch up that is required in way of stern tubes, ‘P’ brackets, rudder bearing housing and other small appendages, the underwater hull plating is in full primer and ready for the anti-foul coating system.
Stabilizers are rested in position on the dock bottom and ready for final installation. ASM note that Stabilizer, hull strengthening plate, is externally mounted, protruding beyond the shell palting and may be an additional source of drag and cavitation.
Bow-thruster : thruster propeller not yet installed.
Stern tubes : stern tube bearings have been installed during the past week. Installation of rope guards and coating system remain to be done.
Propellers not yet installed.
Transom ‘Intruder’ appendage: SL are in the process of replacing the ‘Interceptor’ trimming plates (designed to provide trim and lift), with a fixed (SL design) ‘Intruder’ plate. This modification was not presented to the Owners prior to installation starting and is now under review by ASM. ASM will confirm any recommendations to the Owner, in due course.
Stem plate/guard (above and below waterline): fully welded and now being polished to mirror finish.
Sea chests: painted with a ceramic coating. Anodes remain to be installed.
Transom platform: hydraulic component installation for lowering/raising of the transom platform in progress. Note: The transom platform is hydraulically lowered into the water, to allow for the full opening of the transom door.
Hull Topsides:
The topsides of the hull are mainly in primer coat, with fairing in progress. Some isolated areas, such as around engine exhaust outlets and door apertures, have not been primed. The more complex transom area is at 2nd stage filler with some isolated areas in undercoat.
External Superstructure:
The superstructure and internal bulwark areas are in various stages of the coating process. Due to protective covering being in place, not all areas are visible, however some areas of the vertical deckhouse structure are seen to be in top coat. It was noted that in some areas, the finish quality of this top coat is at an unacceptable level. The internal bulwarks are in primer and have been faired. SL are in the process of re-painting some of the afore mentioned areas.
95% of all windows and port lights to the accommodation have been installed and are covered with protective material.
Shell doors and opening hatches are mostly fitted. Portside beach club door and Fwd Stbd Owners terrace is positioned locally, but not yet installed.
Decks and External Staircases:
Sundeck is in teak, with raised (un-sanded) caulking and some details to be completed.
Fwd upper deck Jacuzzi area Hi-build primer coat applied. Fairing in progress. No teak installed yet.
Fwd/upper deck Port and Stbd walkways are in teak with raised caulking.
Bridge area is in teak with raised caulking.
Upper deck aft area has been levelled with compound. No teak installed yet.
Main deck aft area – alluminium deck. No teak installed yet.
Lower deck beach club – levelled and templated for the floor covering.
Staircases – No teak installed yet.
Mast:
Mast under construction, not onboard yet.
INTERIOR
Crew accommodation: approx. 70% complete. Bathrooms are installed with cabin outfit in progress.
Guest Cabins: 4 guest cabins on Lower Deck are approx. 50% complete. Bathrooms and cabin areas are at a similar stage.
Owners Cabin: approx. 50% complete.
Owners Office and Lobby: approx. 40% complete.
Galley: 70% complete. Appliances in place. Counter tops installed, flooring to be installed.
MD Dining Room: Substructure in place. Some finish panels in place 35% complete.
UD Salon: Substructure in place. AV cabinet in progress. 30% complete.
Wheelhouse: Cabinetry in progress. Approx. 40% complete.
ENGINEERING
Systems in general: the main system components are in position within all three (Fwd tunnel, Main Engine Room, Aft Tunnel) main technical spaces. Installation of piping and electric supply in progress. Overall progress is Approx. 60%.
Main engines: engines are in position but have not yet been mounted on ‘Chockfast’ and aligned to the gearboxes/shaft-line.
Generators: gensets are in position with installation of ancillary systems (cooling water, fuel, exhaust) in progress.
Air Conditioning Plant: main components are mounted in place. Associated pumps in place with chilled water, sea water piping and electrical installations in progress. Fan coils throughout the Yacht are at varying stages of installation.
Sewage Treatment Plant: STP main system is mounted in place. Associated piping and electrical installations in progress.
Fire Suppression System: M.E.R component installation has not started yet. It is anticipated that ‘Aerosol’ system maybe replaced with an FM200 plant. ASM have requested conformation from SL.
Hot and Cold Fresh Water System: piping appears to be 95/100% complete. Pumping and heating components are in place, with final connection to the main system in progress.
Fuel System/Bilge and Fire Fighting System/Pool Systems: piping appears to be 95/100% complete, with only some minor items required to complete the system. Pumps are in place with final connection to the main system in progress.
Protection and tidiness: at time of inspection general tidiness and condition of protective materials was generally to an “ok” standard. This will be monitored continuously to ensure that SL keep preventable damages to a minimum.
SUMMARY
With the build process now entering into in the final months, areas and systems will be in the completion stages from now until Delivery. Deck head and bulkhead panels are being installed daily and it is paramount that SL together with ASM and crew, are onboard to closely monitor this ‘closing up’ process closely.
We have stressed to SL that an increased focus on management of this stage is expected of them, and to that end they have committed to holding a weekly production meeting, at 14:30 every Thursday. ASM have insisted that Sanlorenzo arrange a second weekly meeting (Tuesday and Thursday) and will continue to pursue this.
ASM have also requested an additional onboard Quality Control manager, be assigned to manage all previously raised and new construction issues.
RECOMMENDATIONS
As discussed with capt farmer in the meeting on Tuesday 8th September, Arrow strongly recommends the client to instruct an independent paint surveyor to counter survey the paint work before the second clear coat is applied.
The implementation of a Planned Maintenance System (PMS) such as IDEA is also strongly recommended to insure the maintenance is kept up to date. The use of PMS’s is very common on vessels of this size and greater and is the only accurate way to ensure the vessel is kept in the best condition possible.
