Report #003 | 31st march 2021

GENERAL UPDATE

The overall construction project is making good, steady progress.  The quality of the work being undertaken is good and the Sanlorenzo production team are working well and making all adjustments and modifications that are being asked of them.

We are nearing the completion of all the various structural modifications as outlined in the in the pre-contract agreements, such as the owners balcony (starboard side), elevator, and aft deck structural modifications.

The levels of onboard cleaning have been addressed and we are now in a good place with that initial problem.

EXTERIOR

  • Hull:

There only remains two through-hull fittings left, the ones connected to the forward sea water ballast tank, that remain working progress. The reasons for this are directly related to our request to address the principal surrounding the installation of this sea water ballast tank. The yard is currently working on a proposed solution regarding this. Essentially what we have asked them to do, rather than maintain the sea water ballast system, is to investigate the possibility of changing this from a sea tar system to a closed loop fresh water system. The decision must be made in close conjunction with the overall stability assessment, approved stability booklet and other factors, which at present we are not in possession of. The reasons for this request are regarding the potential implications of MARPOL regulations (marine pollution regulations) that govern the use of embarkation and discharge regulations for sea water ballast systems. This topic has reaching implications to the vessel’s sea-keeping characteristics, stability assessment, loading conditions etc. This must be supplied to us, along with all other relevant data and calculations before a decision can be made as to the best course of action. It’s believed that this topic is under discussion internally as it, along with other weight related questions arise, may pose another significant change to the general outline plan for the yacht.

The propulsion line predisposition and alignment works have been finished on both main engine(s) and foundations, supporting brackets and intermediate bearing carriers.

The hull will require touch up paint works once all the hull fittings are completed.

  •  Superstructure:

Fairing is almost completed on the Sun Deck area. Only the forward external parts remain working progress. The deck areas across all three external decks have been prepared for the pouring of self-levelling compound.  The sun deck area has already been completed, in compliance with the issued milestone or stage payment (e) forming part of the construction contract parameters.

Ventilation grill (structural) have been installed and welded on the main deck level.

INTERIOR

A good deal of progress has been made with the general completion levels of insulating material onboard, in particular the structural fire protection around the engine room and main vertical trunking sections.

The crew areas are advanced. The first stage outfitting the internal bulkheads and vertical partitions is completed and the initial templating of furniture has begun.

The guest area lower cabins, aft of the elevator housing is also being constructed with good speed and quality. The overhead, bulkhead and partitioning insulation is almost completed.  Pipe clamps are installed and being used well. Most of the yacht piping, certainly all structural born piping is either under pressure testing as we write, or has already been done.

The next phase will see the pipe welds and various joints being painted prior to closure.  The yard needs to be careful to not contaminate the surrounding areas when carrying out this painting process, as they are advanced in many areas, almost too far advanced that they are in danger of falling out of build stages or build phases.  One thing must be achieved before the commencement of the following stage if that makes sense.

Porthole framing has also begun in the forward sections guest and crew areas.

TECHNICAL AREAS

  • Lower Deck:

The main focus in this area has been to complete any/all welding and hot works needing to be finalised. Although works remain ongoing.  The focus in the coming period will be commence the various stage of preparing the tanks for inspection and then conducting those inspections.  It is agreed and outlined with the yard that these inspections will commence towards the end of next week or beginning of the following week. Each tank will internally and externally be inspected as part of systematic process.  The blasting, preparation and final coating works will be verified as per technical specification. These will also be witnessed by the classification authority.

The major collective effort with lower deck works has been with preparing valving and piping connections for testing and class approvals.

  • Engine Room:

Both upper and lower levels of the engine room are being clad in structural fire protection material. Also, insulation is advanced on the bulkheads and side walls.  The aft engine room bulkhead remains open for the most part (and will remain so) until all the major machinery components are installed.

The main engines, as you know, are in place on their respective foundation.  The Hamman sewage treatment plant is on its foundations. Work is progressing toward the installation of both the sea water and close fresh water piping and connected valving for the air conditioning main chiller plant, forward and starboard side of the engine room.

The main engine and generator exhaust stand pipes are being installed and templated for their first installation and fit out. Some areas have protective sheet bonding installed.

In the lower parts of the engine room, various valve sets including handles and spindles can be seen.  Many are awaiting the completion of the hot works, mainly flange components to allow the pre-installation to progress.

The majority of hot works are now minor, and relate only to the various piping supports needed.  These are plentiful and scatted throughout the engine room and indeed the lower deck area in particular.

The two Alfa Laval fuel centrifuges have also been placed onboard.

  • Garage/Gym Area:

Partitions and area sectioning can be seen now.  The main focus of these recent works has been geared towards the modification of the upper section of the transom door opening.

The central section has had to be cut-out to allow for the modified transom door mechanism.  This has had to done in order to achieve the overhead travel, or gantry style crane design.  The cutting has now finished, but closing and finishing of the works is yet to be completed.

The crane foundation and connected hot works is completed save minor areas which will not fully completed until the major components is installed and the actual crane itself.

The shell opening on the starboard side (to the gym) is currently in place having had its hinge mechanism completed, and first fit.  The temporary use of hydraulic equipment has been used to move the door to its open and closed positions. The locations for the locking pins are finalised and are being aligned with the moving component door section.

  • Main Deck:

The main deck aft has had the installation of the helicopter deck tie-downs and local reinforcements installed. They are not quite finished, but are well advanced.  The openings have just been cut for the installation of the deck lighting and removable stanchions.  The longitudinal raised partitions are installed ready for the pouring of the self-levelling compound at a later stage.

Works continue of the main deck structural quarters, where the engine room ventilation is housed. Mainly hot works that are connected to the installation of the axial fans/blowers and the piping that’s arranged in those two compartments.

All watertight and weathertight door frames are now completed and installed with the exception of the main deck aft door. The frame is installed, and fairing is post-curing.

The floating floor is completed as far as the owners stateroom. The only outstanding sections are waiting for total completion of works for the shell door starboard side.

The shell opening on the starboard side (owners stateroom) is currently in place having had its hinge mechanism completed, and first fit.  The temporary use of hydraulic equipment has been used to move the door to its open and closed positions.

  • Upper Deck:

As per the main deck, the deck levelling preparation has been completed. The upper deck side hand rail supports are now in place and secured. All connected weathertight doors have been fully welded and installation (structural) completed.

The workforce is continuing to build up the fairing compound on the external structural parts.  Windows and door frames are installed.  The wheelhouse has made little progress, but that is actually in line with the building sequence and correct at this stage as it is advanced compared to other parts of the vessel.

  • Sun Deck:

Very much the same situation as per the upper deck, with the exception of the deck levelling process has been completed.
