ENGINEERING progress pictures update - July 2022
Hot works are underway as per original scope of works and suspect areas found during the refit.
Closing of the old main engine exhaust outlets.
Preparation for the new generator exhaust outlets.
Welding recharge on old insulation pins on the hull.
Engine room central forward longitudinal frame replacement.
Shaft tunnels port and starboard strengthening works continuation.
Lazarette/ steering room including bulkhead in-between lazarette and aft VIP cabin. Welding inserts to replace old corroded areas found during testing.
The above works are completed, tested and visually inspected by class. Some remedial work was required and is underway. Upon completion the test results will be sent to RINA for signing off.
Crew are now underway with painting of the above areas where possible.
Generator exhausts and roll bar are continuing to be manufactured off site.
Generator skids and engines have been embarked and secured in the engine room.
Under the AFT VIP cabin bed there is 5 tonnes of lead bar for ballast across 5 transverse frames. The lead had to be removed from the aft frame to complete bulkhead repairs as explained above. Once the lead was moved, we found corrosion on the transverse frame. A hole was cut in the hull and all 5 tonnes of lead were lowered onto the shed floor. It was found that all 5 of these frames require repair.
The repair is not simple as these frames are welded down into the keel, the keel is also fitted with fixed structural ballast. A repair procedure was submitted to class by Amico that did not involve removing the extra ballast, but that was rejected. Further ballast removal is now underway until solid steel is found that can be welded to.
Pipework installation is underway in the engine room for the available equipment.
Equipment frames and dunnage fabrication is underway.
Main switch board and cabling is continuing
Stern tubes alignment in preparation for chockfast.
Davit main bearings have been installed and the davit structures re installed onto the bridge deck
SCR generator exhaust equipment has arrived at the shipyard.
HCP – hybrid control panel has arrived along with the bridge propulsion levers.
Thrust bearings have been delivered by the supplier and to arrive at the beginning of August.
