Follow Up General Condition Survey M/Y KAMALAYA:
Vessel: M/Y Kamalaya
Date: 15th and 16th May 2020
Location: Amico Shipyard, Genoa, Italy
General Yacht Condition:
The Yacht was found in excellent overall condition, and was found as we left it in the Caribbean. A Yacht wide inspection was conducted, which was focused mainly on principal machinery and auxiliary systems. It should be stated that no sea trials were conducted at this time, so visual inspections only were carried out.
Re-visiting the previous survey, two things remained untested; the shore power converter system and the fixed fire fighting system. The following is an account of the various inspections.
Main Machinery:
Generators:
Both generators were run and loaded. With the exception of the increase in usage hours, there are no other problems noted at this time. The new running hours for the sets as as follows:
Port Side: 17’011 hours. Starboard Side: 17’196 hours.
Main Engines:
The main engines and gearboxes were in a similar situation. The new running hours for the main engines as as follows:
Port Side: 9’613 hours. Starboard Side: 9 ‘606 hours.
There was a minor oil leak noted on the port side gearbox - please refer to previous survey recommendations report. The shaft seals were inspected, again no problems noted.
A set of propulsion tests were conducted form all control stations. The engines, gearboxes and connected shafting equipment was engaged and checked from the main helm station and both wing stations. Control from both local (engine room) and theses remote stations operated with no problems noted.
All other systems, such as engine room ventilators, sea water pumps, fuel centrifuges etc. are all reading the normal amount of usage increase consummate with the crossing and current running statistics. There is nothing of note to report.
Shore Power System:
The Yacht was plugged into the dock, so we took the opportunity to test the power converter system as we were unable to do so in St. Martin. The Magnus power converter as well as the clean net system were tested by loading and un-loading each generator then loading the converter system. All seamless transfers and system paralleling were also tested, in automatic and manual modes of operation. No problems were noted during any of the testing or inspections.
Fixed Fire Fighting System:
As per classification society recommendations, the HiFog system has been fully serviced and brought back into service. The yacht’s dispersal heads have all been replaced, and the system has been fully re-commissioned and certified (certificate sighted). The system was test operated by means of a simulated fire onboard. The system was observed to operate as intended with the pilot pumps working, alarm and sensing equipment operating as intended and the start of the fresh water pumps activating.
It should be noted that the system uses a manually operated fresh water/sea water gave valve, which is located in there Hi Fog compartment. When the system’s fresh water capacity is drained, the system must be manually crossed over to source sea water to continue to supply the FFE pumps. A low level warning alarm is fitted.
Audio Visual System:
As directed, an inspection was carried out on the AV system. All televisions were powered up and tested. The decoder connections were not possible to test as the subscription is inactive, but the system was proven to be fully operational in all areas.
The sun deck TV appears to have a defective module which will need replacing to have fully operational services in this area.
