5.2 Employment contracts

Currently 10 crew are employed onboard SARAFSA, below is an overview of current salaries and current industry standards. Salaries are all within the industry norms, most are at the lower end with the exception of the stewardess’s and Motor man which are considered high for their current role onboard. Regarding annual leave, most crew are on 38 days per year this is the minimum required by the Cayman Islands Shipping Registry (Flag state) industry standards are normally a little higher , 42-45 days per year. The exception to this is the Chief engineer who has a rotational contract. This is normal for a vessel of this size and calibre.

5.3 Crew structure

The full crew structure comprises of 23 crew,  accommodated in 13 cabins. It should be noted that 2 of these cabins are located below the waterline and therefore have no portholes which could present a compliance issue should the boat be operated commercially. However, in addition to the 13 crew cabins there is also 11 ‘staff’ cabins capable of accommodating up to 18 persons, these are intended for staff employed by the owner such as nanny’s, masseuse, security etc. If an owner wishes to operate the vessel commercially two of these cabins could be converted to crew cabins.

It should be noted that the 3 Maids currently employed by the boat are travelling with the owner and not onboard, it is recommended that their employment be transferred to the previous owner or their employment terminated.

5.4 Appraisals of current crew

The overall impression of the current crew members onboard is good, they have been extremely cooperative with the Arrow team whilst onboard. The Captain has been onboard for 7 years, two in the capacity of Captain. He has fully cooperated but is clearly under pressure from the previous owner and his loyalties are sometimes split however so far, he has always acted in the best interest of the current ownership. Despite the unusual situation the crew are well motivated and are diligently getting on with their work. Routine maintenance is being undertaken where financially possible and key management systems such as ISM and ISPS are implemented and up to date.

The current crew all wish to remain onboard under the ‘new’ ownership and are excited about the possibility of a brighter future for Sarafsa under new ownership. After 7 years onboard the Captain wishes to remain onboard and is excited about the possibility of a new owner and extensive shipyard period in order to return the Yacht to Superyacht standard.

Currently there are two stewardesses employed by the yacht. Currently they are not onboard as they travel with the Owner and are currently in London. Their employment should be transferred to the old owner or they should return to Sarafsa to work onboard, or be terminated. There is also a third stewardess who has recently been employed but she has never come to the yacht.
