Progress Report #19 | May 2023
ARIONAS AFLOAT
After the launch and bunkering of Arionas at the end of April she was towed to her berth. Now the in-water commissioning works can commence.
Amico shipyard and the crew are working closely together to get the systems online, starting with the safety systems that are required now Arionas is afloat, then secondly the domestic systems that are required for the crew to maintain a watch onboard.
E motion and Amico are continuing there in water activities to be able to start the machinery during the first week of June.
INCLINING TEST & STABILITY ISSUES
Once the safety and domestic systems were online, the most pressing activity was to complete the after-refit inclining test, this was completed during the first week of May.
Unfortunately, the initial stability concerns from the launch of Arionas were confirmed. It has been established that 23 tons of additional fixed ballast must be embarked to satisfy the main stability requirements and the sea trial must be postponed until the requirements are met.
The inclining test results and the remedial proposal has been supplied by Amico’s Naval architects and is currently under review at RINA’s plan and approval department. RINA’s response is expected on the 7th of June. In the meantime, the naval architects are completing structural calculations that would be required with the additional ballast.
The main objective is to resolve this issue and complete the sea trials and deliver the project. But in the meantime, any knock-on effects of the remedial works are being studied, any alternative remedial works are also being investigated.
Upon receiving RINA’s response, investigations can be made as to what stage miscalculations were made.
ENGINE ROOM AMICO WORKS
Amico with the help of the crew has commissioned the below systems.
• Mooring equipment
• Air conditioning
• Hot and cold water is online, some small repairs are still to be resolved by the shipyard and crew that were found during commissioning
• Fuel oil storage and transfer
• Refrigeration is online
• Black and grey sanitary systems are online, only the sewage treatment plant test run remains.
• Emotion equipment cooling system has been test run as far as applicable.
• Bilge and fire system online, a few final repairs are required after systems testing
• Alarm and monitoring system is online and tested. The tank level gauges have been calibrated.
• Lighting in accommodation areas.
Now Arionas is in the water the final alignment of the propulsion and the shaft line is underway. Once the alignment is completed the engine room floor will be refitted in place.
Amico has completed their scope of works for the generator exhaust system after final alterations were made as requested by the owner's team.
EMOTION WORKS
The fabrication of Emotions section of the exhaust system is underway and will be installed on the 5th of June.
The gearbox mounting feet had to be re-machined to match their flexible mounts.
Electrical works continue on the cable works for the hybrid control, power, and communication cables to machinery and switchboards. Once the exhausts are installed the generators will be run up and the electrical motors test.
The generator engine manufacturers have been onboard to prepare the Yanmar engines and electronics, so they are ready for starting.
DECK WORKS
The new bridge deck teak has been sanded and handed over to the crew to clean and maintain.
Davit cranes testing continues in preparation for the load test.
Bridge deck bar equipment testing has begun.
INTERIOR
Detailing of the interior continues and inventories and equipment is being moved back onboard.
The galley is now back together and is operational with the chef happily delivering meals out of the door.
CREW HEADS
After multiple return visits from the shipyard and efforts made by the crew, the crew heads are now at an above-acceptable standard.
Only the final touches are to be completed.
The crew mess and crew cabins are now functional.
