Progress Report #13 | 9th December 2022
Paint works
Port side topside
The port topside has been painted with Flag blue Alexseal 501 topcoat paint. The paint was applied to the entire port side to the bow, and to Midships on the transom.
The portside was painted prior to the starboard side due to a delay in closing the engine room hull entrance on the starboard side. This gives us a good opportunity to resolve any issues in good time.
The paint surveyor appointed by Arrow Monaco has inspected the topcoat and is seen to be of good quality, even application with no runs, sags or dry spots.
Unfortunately, some areas of concern were found due to some items missed in the preparation process above the rubbing strake. The advice was to resolve the imperfection and reshoot the areas above the rubbing strake.
The shipyard agree and will reshoot this area when the starboard side is painted.
Paint works continued
Main deck deckheads
Some overspray was found whilst removing the protection on the main deck deckheads. It is very difficult to touch up this type of paint application, a complete respray was undertaken on the account of the shipyard.
The paint surveyor inspected the main deck deckhouse, a few areas of concern were raised that we are assured will be able to be resolved without a respray. Nevertheless, the area will need to be re inspected by the surveyor after the remedial works.
Bridge deck pilot
Aft of the starboard side bridge door, where the life ring is mounted. There were some imperfections seen suspected to be in the filler layers. A small destructive test was completed witnessed by the paint surveyor. The final filler application was found to be too thick in small local areas, causing shrinkage. The shipyard will re fair and respray this area during the month of December.
Carpentry and windows
Bridge windows
The interior wooden facias and steel framework were removed on the 5 flat and 2 curved bridge windows. It was found that the flat glass must be removed from the exterior. To do so would cause additional works and delays.
A decision was made to replace only the 2 curved windows, classification societies are aware of the decision. The 2 curved windows have been 3D scanned and manufacture has commenced.
Bridge deck Bar
The teak steps have been manufactured on the step forward of the bar.
Crew works
Varnishing on deck capping rails and furniture is continuing.
Deck fittings installation is continuing.
Awning structures forward of the bridge have been installed. The main bridge deck awning is dry fitted in place, measurement's have been taken and steel work alterations will be completed by the shipyard to suite the new deck profile.
Engine room equipment
Equipment embarkation
• Generator alternators have been embarked and installed. A delay was encountered due to some missing mounting hardware. Top left image
• Shore power transformer and its control equipment have been embarked on their new supports. Bottom right image.
• Heat exchanger has been installed on its drip tray. Top right image
• Generator exhaust valves have been fitted
• Generator exhaust GRP components have arrived, not yet installed.
• SCR roll bars have been welded and installed in their final position. Top left image.
• Thrust bearings and support brackets are embarked not yet installed. Bottom left image.
• Fuel oil overflow tank has been re installed
• Air conditioning plant has been embarked, not yet installed
• 3 SCR units have been embarked, not yet installed.
All main equipment apart from the fuel oil separator and propulsion batteries are now in the engine room. During the first week of December, the hull insert will be closed to allow for topsides paint completion.
Engine room systems
Electrical
• The cables are being run for the E motion serial hybrid system in their cable trays.
• Cables runs for the bow thruster and stabilizer power and control circuits are under way
• Alarm and monitoring cable and hardware installation has begun.
• Installation of the cables for the new emergency and work lights on deck
Pipework
• E motion equipment cooling system pipework is being installed, this includes pipework from the sea suctions to the pumps, heat exchanger and equipment itself
• Alterations of the bilge suction pipework to allow installation of the new shore power transformer.
• Woodwork has been removed in the captain's cabin heads in preparation for further fire main repairs as found during the fire main flushing.
Steering
The bolt that was removed in the original attempt the separate the rudder fins and stocks was replaced. We managed to complete all necessary tasks without separating the fins and stocks.
The mating surfaces have been cleaned and re greased. The rudders are now installed and secured.
The crew will soon prepare, paint and re install the lead ballast in the lazarette.
The new steering rams are in production. Once they are ready and the crew have completed the above, the shipyard will complete the steering system installation.
VIP cabin
After the VIP cabin hot works were approved by RINA, the crew have prepared and painted the bilge and supports under the bed. A protective matting has been installed on all surfaces to protect the steelwork from having direct contact with the lead ballast. The lead ballast has all been pressure washed. Next month the lead will be re installed and we can have this area completed.
