Progress Report #12 | 11 November 2022
Paint works progress
The sun deck non skid paint works have now been completed, subject to inspection on the final paint survey when M/Y Arionas is out of the shed. Visual inspection shows an even layer with a good grade of non-skid. The deck is now protected.
Apart from on the engine room hull insert for machinery embarkation, the hull topsides are now painted in grey primer.
During the final days of October, the port side hull was painted in topcoat. I will add the results of this in the next report.
The starboard side will be painted once the engine room large insert for machinery embarkation is closed. This task is currently scheduled to begin at the end of November.
Paint works – Auxiliary items
Deck equipment such as anchor windlass and the davit crane mechanical items.
Although paint preparation was completed, unfortunately during the original paint process there was a reaction to oil or other substance in the original layers of paint.
The equipment was sent away for sandblasting, unfortunately uncovering some leaks on the davit gearboxes. The gearboxes have now gone for repair. The drums and other items are now being painted.
The davit based are now completed and painted. Ready for final installation once mechanical items are painted.
Equipment arrival
The 3 alternators have arrived, they are ready to be coupled with the generator engines that have already been embarked in the engine room.
E motion are having to adjust the couplings and order additional hardware due to a compatibility issue. The hardware has arrived in the last week of October and the equipment is ready for final coupling during the 1st week of November.
The heat exchanger that will cool all the E motion supply equipment has arrived. The shipyard are already preparing the mounting brackets and drip tray.
Teak deck and carpentry
Outfitting of the bridge deck bar and its plumbing is underway. The teak for the steps are being fabricated.
The wooden facias in the bridge of the 2 curved windows have been removed in order to create a more accurate quotation for the bridge window replacements.
The two raised margin plates have been fabricated and glued in place on bridge deck port and starboard sides.
Crew works
The crew have begun the task of re installing the newly varnished handrails, slight modifications will have to be made to suite the different height of the new teak deck to the deck connections.
Shortly the awning structure will also be embarked.
Varnishing works and outfitting of deck equipment and brightwork is still underway.
Hot Works
The welding repairs are now completed and have been inspected and accepted by RIN. There are a few areas to tidy up, then the crew will start the paint process, protect the bilge area and then re install the lead ballast.
Once the crew have finished, the shipyard will close the small hole in the hull that was used to disembark and re embark the lead ballast.
Framework and dunnage is being fabricated and installed in the engine room. Main works are the frames to mount equipment, control boxes and the aft engine room floor structure.
Some of the original welds for the above were rejected by Arrow and are currently being rectified.
Engineering
Pipe work, system fabrication and installation are continuing as follows:
Domestic hot water pipework in the engine room including the hot water circulation pumps upgrade.
Bunker water pipework and upgrade for a silver ion dosing of the bunker water.
E motion have supplied a template of generator connections so Amico can continue to run inlets and outlets to the 3 diesel generators.
General service and bilge pipework
Fuel transfer pipework
E motion equipment cooling pipework
Domestic pipework running up to the bridge deck bar via the funnel.
The 2 transformers that are located under the engine room work bench are secured in place.
DC buss bar and hybrid control panel have been mounted in place. There are a few rejected points from Arrow on the DC buss bar panel that are being resolved.
Engineering continued
Templates have been supplied for the three generator exhaust components, Amico are using these to fabricate and install the framework in the engine room in preparation to the equipment arrival.
The rudders have been dropped as much as possible with the current height of Arionas. The stocks have been cleaned, measured and non destructive tested with the presence of RINA. They will be re installed with new gland packing/ seals. Regarding RINA the rudders themselves now have 5 years until the next inspection.
The 6 exhaust valves for the new generator exhaust valves were pressure tested with attendance of RINA to ensure they are certified for use.
