Paint works progress
Hull preparation for paint. Manual board sanding was completed on the topsides, followed by a light sand with dual action sanding machines to remove the scratch marks from board sanding.
The areas around the generator exhausts will be prepared for paint after the generator hot works completion
Paint inspection was completed by Wrede consultants on September the 14th. Areas inspected were as below,
hull board sanding review, hull paint preparation inspection
planning the paint process around the portholes.
putting together a repair process for a filler reaction on the bridge coach roof that will require remedial action.
Reviewing the paint improvements from a previously rejected area around the windlass base.
Passerelle components have been painted and ready for construction.
Equipment arrival
The new custom-made general service manifolds have arrived, to be installed during October in conjunction with pipework modifications in the engine room
E motion supply alternators are in transit to arrive in Amico shipyard on the 1st of October.
Thrust bearing brackets have arrived on site but unfortunately require adjustments due to interferences and alterations to drive line angle.
Generator SCR and exhaust structures have arrived.
Teak Deck
Teak deck has been installed on the entire bridge deck, the caulking primer and caulking has been completed.
Carpentry work
The BD bar has been lifted in place and works have begun for the bar step, cabinet work and plumbing
Bridge woodworks are continuing.
Wooden panelling has been re installed in the port crew cabin after inspection hatches had been made for previous steel works.
Capping rail varnishing work is continuing by the deck crew.
Hot works
The old main engine hull closure inserts completed in August failed the initial inspection on Port and Starboard. Both sides were cut out and oval shaped steel inserts were welded in place.
The old generator outlet on the starboard side was cut out and a welded insert was installed.
Non destructive testing was completed on the 3 inserts mentioned above. Some remedial action was required on the generator closure.
The new exhaust deflectors were fabricated and their saddles were welded onto the hull.
In preparation for the hot works in the VIP cabin the bitumen in the keel was removed, RINA have inspected the steel works and a new repair plan has been designed that has been approved by class. Hot works will begin at the beginning of October.
Engineering
The new air compressor has been installed and the compressed air pipework has been altered.
Serial hybrid system cooling pumps have been painted and installed. Cooling system pipework fabrication has begun.
Urea tank final inspection completed, pipework installation is underway.
New fire main section installed in the crew corridor and cabin
Fridge freezer compressors and condensers have been installed in the engine room
Fuel and bilge systems pipework are underway.
Rudders are in the process of being dropped to complete the rudder seals replacement and rudder stock inspection.
Engine Room
Engine room above floor structures are being painted where ready with roller and brush.
New pipework is being power coated off site before being installed.
Unfortunately having the shipyard maintain good housekeeping has been a struggle. The shipyard will complete another deep clean and an additional coat of paint in the bilges and tank tops nearer completion of the project.
