Report #006 - 16 May 2022
Works continue in all areas of the vessel.
The last Upper Deck tender davit took some moving as it was rusted solid around the swivel bearing but has been removed and both davits will be taken to the offsite contractor for refurbishment.
The Upper Deck has been completely leveled out with fairing compound and a camber added to drain the water off the decks to the scuppers at the sides. Primer paint was then applied to seal the fairing in readiness for the installation of the new Teak Deck after the paint works are completed in the area.
The Main Mast, and Upper Deck house have been painted in High Build and sanding will continue in these areas to work out any flaws prior to topcoat primer being applied.
Spot fairing and sanding have continued around the Main Deck house and side bulwarks in preparation for primer.
The sandblasting of the Guest and Crew portholes is completed now and the fairing around these is underway
The New Urea Tank in the Engine Room has been welded in place with the tank tops bolted in position. The tank has just had NDT (Non-Destructive Test) and the pressure test is now underway.
The Stabiliser metal framework has also undergone NDT using ultrasonic equipment to inspect the welding to the main hull structure. This testing is a requirement from the Classification society.
The new main propulsion steelworks have been completed in the aft area of the Engine Room and NDT undertook. Some small minor areas were found that needed further attention for additional welding otherwise all were in good order. The Generator engine sub support frames have been welding into position in the middle of the Engine Room.
The construction of the new bar is underway with the main furniture structure completed. The front slatted teak pieces are installed on the curve and look great, and the top bar overhang has been installed. Arctic Ice white Corian has been ordered for the main bar service area. The storage and equipment doors are in construction and the bar will be completed to the first fit before then going into the clear paint coating.
Repairs to the main hull internal frames in the forward bilge have been completed and will now need to be tidied up before the crew will be free to complete the internal coating of the area.
Further repairs to the main hull frames in the aft bilges will commence in the coming weeks now that we have identified all of the areas that require the structural repairs. These are around the Port and Stbd shaft support bearings that are already identified for replacement.
The Aft Steering bilge had all of the lead ballast removed for a thorough inspection of the area. Heavy corrosion was found in all areas of the steel plate. This was removed and cleaned by the ship’s crew. UTM (Ultrasonic Thickness Measurements have been taken or the entire area, specifically around the steering rudder post housings to confirm the remaining metal thickness and structural support. The final report is still to be issued to use with the complete findings.
4 pieces of the main propulsion shafts were transported to a specialist contractor for confirmation of straightness and remedial works inspection.
