Report #005 - 11 April 2022
There has been good activity in all areas of the vessel this past month.
The first of the 2 Upper Deck tender davits has been removed and will be taken to the offsite contractor for refurbishment. The second davit will follow after the Upper Deck sub-base works are underway.
The Upper Deck has also had the Steel Doubler plates added in locations where reinforcement is required to give additional strength or depth of steel for fittings to be mounted. Tender and Jet Ski chocks, Awning poles, etc.
The second coat of the white primer paint has been applied on top of the new doubler plates and deck allowing for markers to be run along the deck to give the deck filler guides to fill up to for the correct amount of camber so water will run of and not leave standing water. These markers are run in wide strips and the first pull of the entire length of the Upper Deck has been completed.
Fairing works continue around the vessel. Forward of the Bridge area had significant corrosion damage to the steel that required the removal and cleaning of the kicker area that was in GRP. This has been re-laid in new GRP to provide a good bond between the deck and the vertical bulwark. Fairing was then applied to give a true clean finish with the existing structure. This fairing works continued aft along the scupper drains on both sides of the deck ensuring the new sub-base of the teak deck is sealed and water will flow away and overboard.
The sandblasting of the Guest and Crew portholes has begun as the protections were completed for the works.
Black tank re-painting works have been completed and all areas inside the tank now have the new protective coating of Tank Guard. This will help to keep the corrosive fluids in the Black/Grey water away from the original hull steel.
The Stabiliser works continue with the closure of the hull plates with the new spider frame plates. These plates are welded to the hull on both sides, followed by the inner framework being welded to the existing hull to give back the strength and give added strength for the newer larger stabiliser fin systems.
The new Urea tank has been blasted using copper slag blasting method. This has given a very good clean etch to the existing steel for the new designed tank steel works.
With the Engine Room drawings having been approved by RINA Classification, the steel works have begun at the end of the month for the new Electric motors and Generator base framework. This requires portions of the original frames to be removed and new configuration of steel plates being added for the various new machinery.
